अध्यर्धॱपूर्वॱद्विगोर्लुगसंज्ञायाम् ONPANINI 51028

Luk the affixes taught from here up to tadarhati when after a /dvigu or after what has adhyardha अध्यर्ध "sesqui" ibc, unless when a tag.

dvizUrpam द्विशूर्पम् "bought by two Shoorpa"

Candravasu says that this has elision of TiThan टिठन् or of aJ अञ्. With /TiThan it would be dvizUrpikam द्विशूर्पिकम्.

As adhyardha अध्यर्ध is a /saGkhyA, what has adhyardha अध्यर्ध ibc must be a /dvigu, so the adhyardha-pUrva अध्यर्धॱपूर्व in the sUtra looks useless.

As adhyardha-pUrva अध्यर्धॱपूर्व cannot be useless, what has adhyardha अध्यर्ध ibc cannot be a /dvigu always. So adhyardha अध्यर्ध cannot be always a /saGkhyA. Candravasu says that it is not a /saGkhyA before /kRtvasuc, so you cannot compound adhyardha अध्यर्ध + /kRtvasuc.

I disagree with candravasu. I don't think it makes sense for /pANini to go out of his way just to tell us that "one and a half times" is nonsense. So there must be some other reason. Looking for it is left as an exercise.
