The departure takes fifth ending.

So in the expressions —

parvatAd avarohati पर्वतादवरोहति "he goes down from the mountain"

vRkebhyo bhayam वृकेभ्यो भयम् "fear from wolves"

vRkAd bhayam वृकाद्भयम् "fear from the wolf"

The words **parvatAt पर्वतात्, **vRkebhyas वृकेभ्यस् and **vRkAt वृकात् have fifth endings because they are departures — they mean either the place the doer moves away from, or the cause of fear.

In a sUtra, but not in real Sanskrit, the fifth ending may mean "after". See uses of cases for examples.
