karmaNi dvitIyA

कर्मणि द्वितीया ONPANINI 23002

Add second ending to the object (of whatever shows the doer).

Example.

In the sentence

azvaM rAjA pazyati अश्वं राजा पश्यति "king sees horse"

the word pazyati पश्यति shows the doer (the word rAjA राजा is the doer of pazyati पश्यति),

and the word azvam अश्वम् is the object of pazyati पश्यति.

Therefore, according to this sUtra, the word azvam अश्वम् must have second ending.

However, in the sentence

azvo rAjJA dRSTaH अश्वो राज्ञा दृष्टः "king saw horse"

the word azvas अश्वस् is the object of dRSTas दृष्टस्

the word rAjJA राज्ञा is the doer of dRSTas दृष्टस्

however, the word dRSTas दृष्टस् does not show the doer

Therefore this sUtra says nothing about what ending must the word azvas अश्वस् get. (In this case it gets first ending because of some other sUtra.)
