@meaning of past tenses

According to grammarians, the /laG and the /liT should not be used for what happened today, so the /luG is preferable for recent events.

But in practice, many users during the last two thousands years have disregarded this advice of the grammarians, and use the three past tenses, and the fakeverbs formed with /kta and /ktavatu, interchangeably. In some styles of Sanskrit, all three past tenses are rarely found — only the fakeverbs are in common use.

The /luG is seldom used in most styles of Sanskrit.
