Attach nuk नुक् after the a (of an /abhyAsa) of a nasal-ender root (before /yaG /yaGluk).

The n न् in nuk नुक् is an /anusvAra, not a n न्.

The k क् in nuk नुक् makes it /kit, and makes the /abhyAsa be /kit. So we get —

yaMyamyate यंयम्यते

yaMyamIti यंयमीति

tantanIti तन्तनीति

tantanyate तन्तन्यते

"taMtanyate"

Wait, shouldn't halAdizzeSaH eat up this nuk नुक्?

If it did, this rule would be useless. Common sense overrides everything.

Why is it important for the /abhyAsa to be /kit?

To prevent the << dIrghokitaH lengthening.

This /anusvAra is clearly not padafinal. So how can we get "taMtanyate"? Rule anusvArasy... cannot apply here.

Because a /vArttika says so.

How do you know that the n न् in the sUtra means /anusvAra?

Actually, I don't know. I can't understand what candravasu says about this subject, so I gave up and just copied what he said. Sorry.

This sUtra appears to have heaps of fishy points.

True.
