Affixes are placed after the root or nounbase.

As in

kR कृ + /tavya → **kartavya- कर्तव्यॱ

**vatsa- वत्सॱ + /cha → **vatsIya- वत्सीयॱ

This rule does not apply to Titaugments. Example. Rule luGlaGlRGkSvaD... says that when we mean "we hated"

dviS द्विष् + /laG /mas

then what is before /mas, namely dviS द्विष्, gets the affix /aT. Usually affixes are placed after dviS द्विष् by parazca परश्च, but because of rule AdyantauTak..., this /aT is placed in front of whatever it is attached to —

dviS द्विष् + /laG /mas → !**adviSmas अद्विष्मस् "we hated"

Similarly, rule rudAdibhyass... says that rudh रुध् gets the affix /znam. Because of rule midacontyAtp..., this na न is not placed after rudh रुध्, but after the vowel of rudh रुध् —

ruddh रुद्ध् + /znam + /laT /tip → **ruNaddhi रुणद्धि
