zaz cho 'Ti शश्छो ऽटि ONPANINI 84063

(After a stop, optionally) replace z श् with ch छ्, unless z श् is before a stop.

If we take the option —

**tad' तद्ऽ + zivas शिवस्
tatzivas तत्शिवस् by <8 kharica
taczivas तच्शिवस् by stozzcunAzcuH
tacchivas तच्छिवस् optionally by this rule

!**tacchivas तच्छिवस् "then ziva शिव"

vAk chete वाक्छेते
agnicic chete अग्निचिच्छेते
somasuc chete सोमसुच्छेते
zvaliT chete श्वलिट्छेते
triSTup chete त्रिष्टुप्छेते

ITA

!**taczivaH तच्शिवः

vAk zete वाक्शेते
agnicit zete अग्निचित्शेते
somasut zete सोमसुत्शेते
zvaliT zete श्वलिट्शेते
triSTup zete त्रिष्टुप्शेते

Even though /pANini says that the ch छ् replacement is optional after all stops, in practice most people do the replacement always after d द्, and never after D ड् g ग् b ब्. You won't find tz त्श् Tch ट्छ् kch क्छ् pch प्छ् written anywhere except in sUtra svaujasamauTch...

su सु + au + jas जस् + am अम् + auT औट् + zas शस्svaujasamauTchas स्वौजसमौट्छस्

ITA

But you may chant that if you like as

su सु + au + jas जस् + am अम् + auT औट् + zas शस्svaujasamauTzas स्वौजसमौट्शस्

When is a word-initial z श् before a stop?

AFAIK, only in root zcut श्चुत्

tat zcotati tailam तत्श्चोतति तैलम् "then oil oozes out"

Why do you translate aTi अटि as "unless before a stop"? It means "before /aT letters".

True, I mistranslated. Yet, /vArttika (chatvamamIt...) says that /pANini screwed up here and should have said "before /am' letters", because tacchlokaH तच्छ्लोकः and tacchmazAnam तच्छ्मशानम् are fine.

And, as far as I know, "unless before a stop", "unless before c च्", "unless before zcut श्चुत्" all work fine here.
