They can. Grammar allows that. Yet, usage and custom prefer to add some feminine affix

**guru- गुरुॱ f → **gurvI- गुर्वीॱ "teacheress"

**RSi- ऋषिॱ f!**RSikA- ऋषिकाॱ "prophetess"

What about adjectives that end in i u ?

When these are f , they can get feminine affixes

**guru- गुरुॱ f + /jas
→ **guru- गुरुॱ f + /GI + /jas
!**gurvyas गुर्व्यस् f "heavy ones" as in gurvyaz zilAH गुर्व्यः शिलाः

**bahu- बहुॱ f + /jas
