hal-antAc ca हलन्ताच्च ONPANINI 12010

After (/ik plus) consonant, an /aniT /san is /kit.

So /san is /kit after viz विश् here, and that debars gbS

/ni + viz विश् + /san + /laT /ta!**nivivikSate निविविक्षते "he wants to go in"

Why do we bother to say "/ik"? Even if you don't say that, gbS won't affect the non-/ik.

But that was just an example. Non-guNation is not the only effect of kitness. See —

/yaj + /san + /laT /ta
!**yiyakSate यियक्षते "wants to sacrifice"

here, as /yaj is /ik-less, halantAcca हलन्ताच्च did not make /san into ksan क्सन्. And that's why rule grahijyAvay... did not trigger.
