When you click a fuchsia box that shows "apacat" in the inria reader, it displays the message —

(impft. (1) ac. sg. 3 )(pac)

Fuchsia means that this is a verb, namely, that this is formed by joining a root and a tense.

impft means that the tense is /laG.

Ignore the (1) at the left side for now.

ac means that the tense is doershowing and is replaced by one of the nine flat endings — one of /tip /tas /jhi /sip /thas /tha /mip /vas /mas.

The 3 at the end means that the ending is a third person ending, so it belongs to the FIRST group of three — /tip /tas /jhi (3 means tip tas jhi, 2 means sip thas tha, 1 means mip vas mas)

The sg means that the ending is singular. Therefore it is /tip.

So inria is telling us that pac पच् + /laG makes **apacat अपचत्, but only when /laT is replaced with /tip.

pac पच् + /laG /tip → **apacat अपचत्

What does the (1) at the left mean?

It means that pac पच् is a class one root. This means that if you go to the page verb classes, the first line in the table will show you which sUtra must be applied first to make the verb. In this the line tells us that sUtra kartarizap adds /zap

pac पच् + /laG /tippac पच् + /zap + /tippac पच् + a + ti ति → **apacat अपचत्
